The gallery opened in the "Rolan" cinema theater in 1999 was not a temporary event of an advertising nature, but a serious initiative with an aim to support and popularize the noncommercial art of different styles. And now we may say that the "Paradise" gallery lives a full cultural life, in which all the good intentions turn into actions.
"Paradise" gallery is democratic in its exhibition activity and has no priorities with respect to styles and genres, and separate types of art. Painting, graphic arts, sculpture, artistic photography, applied art, design were exhibited in the lobby of "Rolan" during four years. Regular visitors of the cinema theater could observe unpredictable change of the gallery exposition. Ceramic painting of Marina Stepanova-Lanskaya "New voices of ancient ceramics", "Enamel world" of Lyudmila Zaichikova, gobelins exposition of Gagik Bagdasaryan, sculptures of Vladimir Slobodchikov, etc. were exhibited in the gallery.
The range of authors, the gallery collaborates with, is very wide. From fashion and conceptual artists, as Aik Mesropyan (ex-member of the international association "Astral realism"), nowadays living and working in Switzerland to photographic poets, praising profundity and beauty of animate nature and inexplicable inspiration on the faces of children and women (Vladimir Petukhov), and the whole shining spectrum of cinematographic society Bohemia (photo-exhibition of the "Domovoy" magazine), demonstration of author's collection of unique handicraft silk dresses made by a Yugoslavian designer Dushitsa. By the way, this event was celebrated at the same time with exposition of pictures by Rita Voskanyan, glorifying the memory of centuries and civilizations.
In spite of variety of genres, styles and ideas that the gallery receives, there are some principles, uniting all the expositions, represented in "Rolan". First, it is looking-for good nature, second it is rejection of any types of provocation, and third it is preference for art with profound national roots.
Special place in activity of the gallery is dedicated to charitable and noncommercial retro-expositions, meetings and exhibitions of cinema artists and directors, such as exposition of works of Sergey Paradzhanov "Unknown Paradzhanov", charitable meeting, dedicated to the composer Mikael Tariverdiev with demonstration of his photographic works.
Many of the regular artists of he "Paradise" gallery (Yana Poklad, Alexander Dedushev, Aik Mesropyan, Eduard Abzhinov, etc.) every year take part in the international charitable project "Smile operation" for children with face deformity.
The cultural life of the gallery consists not only in demonstration of art, but also in communication between those, who love the art and who are ready to discover it every time anew. Every year the gallery takes part in an important artistic action "Art-Manezh" gathering the best galleries of the year (the projects "Angels", "It will be all right soon").
"Paradise" gallery with pleasure celebrates artistic conferences and meetings in its halls. The interior of lobby of the "Rolan" cinema theater where the gallery is situated is favorable for such undertakings. Extraordinary design of the interior and music — quiet and unobtrusive during the days and live music in the evening create specific comfortable environment that favors to meditative mood helping to understand the art profoundly. |
